Out of all the countries I’ve travelled to Jordan is definitely in my top 3 favourite countries. Mainly because of its such diverse landscapes and culture that has so much to offer.
I travelled through Jordan for 7 days (I do wish I had longer there though!) and still managed to see the main attractions such as Wadi Rum, Petra, The Dead Sea and Aqaba.
This blog post will help you plan your trip to Jordan to get the most out of your time there.
What airport to fly to?
You can either fly to Amman Airport (North) or Aqaba Airport (South), depending on where you are flying from.
Depending on which airport you fly to, you can adapt the following plan so that it is more convenient for you. I landed at Aqaba Airport but if you arrive at Amman airport then I recommend starting with The Dead Sea, Petra then Wadi Rum!
After arriving at Aqaba Airport, I heavily suggest going directly to Wadi Rum where you can spend the next 2 nights. Since Wadi Rum is also south it is the easiest first stop!
2 days in Wadi Rum
There are many Bedouin Camps to choose from when looking for a place to stay in Wadi Rum. From luxury bubble hotels to a simple tent camping spot, it’s up to you to chose which suits you the best. I personally prefer the more basic camps since they really immerse you in Jordan’s Bedouin culture!
I do suggest spending about 2 nights here maximum, as you would take one day to explore the desert and camel rides and the other to either arrive or leave the place.
Check out my story that explains everything about my experience in the Wadi Rum Desert.
Next stop: Petra
Petra is THE must visit spot when travelling through Jordan. From Wadi Rum to Petra it’ll take you about a 2 -3 hour drive.
Make sure to plan your trip accordingly so that you are able to witness the Petra Night Show which takes place every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday evening.
Petra is definitely a huge sight from the Treasury to the Al-Deir Monastery there is so much to explore and see. It is definitely doable in a day but I do suggest buying a two day ticket so that you can take your time!

From Petra to The Dead Sea
After walking for hours through the site of Petra it is time to head to a more relaxing destination: The Dead Sea. Did you know that this is the lowest point on Earth with an altitude of 400 meters (0.2 miles) under sea level?
There are plenty of hotels you can stay at located right on the seashore. I stayed at the Dead Sea Resort and Spa and would totally recommend it! It has it’s own private beach and is close to a shopping mall with restaurants.
2 nights should be enough to full experience the beauty of the dead sea. Floating the whole day in the salty water is fun and definitely beneficial for your health.
The Last Stop: Aqaba
Aqaba is located right on the shore of the Red Sea, which is known for its coral reefs and snorkelling.
In Aqaba, you can visit local markets, snorkel in the Red sea, visit the mosques, etc…
A fun way to see the city is to take a touristic train that show you around the city and takes you to all the best-known places! Or you can even walk as everything is quite close to each other.
I also suggest taking a boat ride that has a glass floor so that you’ll be able to see all the amazing coral reefs and even some old shipwrecks hidden in the Red Sea!
How to get from place to place in Jordan?
Jordan doesn’t have a metro or train line so it’s best to either rent a car if you feel confident enough to drive through unknown lands or either go by taxi which is the easiest option. They aren’t too expensive so that’s a plus.
Make sure though to always make it clear where you want to go what time by writing it on a piece of paper etc… as the language barrier can sometimes be a problem.
Other than the places I mentioned above there are plenty that I didn’t have enough time to visit: Amman, Jerash, Hot Springs, etc…
I hope this blog post helps you to plan your trip to Jordan!
