Memories From Every Country I’ve Been To

Memories From Every Country I’ve Been To

I’ve always found it important to have a way to keep all the memories of every trip you’ve taken to be able to look back at them in the future and remind yourself of the amazing times you had. Whether it is writing them down in a journal or taking as many photos and videos as possible, there are plenty of ways to remember your trip forever. I decided to write this blog post to share with you all some of the best and unforgettable moments I’ve had in every country I’ve been to. Of course, I’ll update this blog post whenever I get the chance to travel to a new country! I hope you enjoy reading it!

Asia

1. China

Travelling to China was the first time I ever took the plane and travelled to another continent without my family. Needless to say, spending 10 days at the International Student Summer Camp in Beijing were probably some of the best days of my life to this day. You can read more about my experience in China here.

One moment I’ll never forget was when we climbed the Great Wall of China in about 32°C heat and humidity. It was probably the hottest I’ve ever felt. (2017)

2. Myanmar

As some of you might already know, I am half Burmese! Visiting Myanmar for the first time was definitely an eye-opening experience in many ways. Not only did I get to visit my family roots, but I also got to see how nice people truly are. That kindness and generosity often come from people that don’t have much.

My best memory from my trip to Myanmar was when we were so kindly welcomed by our relatives. They prepared plenty of activities for us and cooked the yummiest food I’ve ever tasted. (2014)

3. Japan

Oh, how I loved visiting Tokyo so much! I just loved everything about that city: the people, the atmosphere, the food, …! My favourite moment was when we went on a bus trip on the first day, to Mount Fuji. The guide took us to see the beautiful cherry blossoms and after seeing the Mount Fuji from a distance we went to a strawberry farm and got to pick as many strawberries as we wanted and dip them in condensed milk! So delicious! (2017)

4. South Korea

There is something about Seoul that made me love it so much. I remember when we went to several optical illusion museums which were super fun to visit! Also, the time we went to a coffee shop called Caface. It’s basically where they take a photo of your face and print it on your drink! South Korea seems to be known for its unique themed cafés. I even got to go to a dog café and poop café (and museum lol)! Definitely some unique moments one can only experience in South Korea. (2016)

5. North Korea

Although I was only in North Korea for about 10 minutes maximum, I still like to add this country to my list of visited places because of course, it’s not a country you can just visit freely.

One of the most intriguing moments was when we had to sign a paper just before crossing the border, agreeing to go to North Korea and to all the consequences that could come with it (including death…) (2016)

6. Hong Kong

Taking the gondola up to Ngong Ping to see the Big Buddha, visiting the small fishing village of Tai O or seeing the light show at night. These are some of my favourite memories of Hong Kong. I specifically remember one day, in the morning we visited the Big Buddha, walked up the hundreds of stairs in the heat to reach the top and be amazed by the massiveness of the Buddha upfront. Then we took a bus to Tai O fishing village and once there, we took a boat tour to see the pink dolphins. We didn’t get to see any though, but we did see some flying fish! (2015)

7. Macau

Unfortunately, I only got to spend one day in Macau but I really enjoyed it there! We took the Turbojet boat from Hong Kong and I remember it being so stormy that it felt like the boat wasn’t going to make it back to the port in one piece. Luckily it did though! I also loved going up the Macau Tower and seeing people bungee jump off it. In Macau, they also have this beef jerky called Bakkwa. Plenty of shops were giving out samples to taste and I remember finding it so delicious that I couldn’t stop eating it!! (2015)

8. Jordan

I travelled to Jordan with only my father and we had the most amazing time ever! I loved every moment from that trip and wish it could have lasted for way longer. Although I have plenty of memories, my favourite was when we were one of the first people to walk into the site of Petra at 5:30 am. It was so empty, calm and relaxing. I also loved floating in the calmness of the Dead Sea with the black mud mask all over my body and cruising through the Wadi Rum Desert on the roof of a jeep. (2019) You can read more about my Jordan experience here.

Africa

9. Tunisia

Tunisia was the first time I ever went to a Club Med. It’s definitely not my type of holiday as I prefer to actually explore the city not just relax in the hotel by the pool all day (Of course, everyone has their own preferences!) It was a fun experience but I wouldn’t necessarily book another Club Med holiday, to be honest. I still got to experience the busy souks of Djerba for a day so that was super interesting! (2014)

10. Egypt

I will never forget the first time I saw the Pyramids appearing behind the buildings when I was in the taxi arriving in Gizeh from the airport. Just thinking about the fact that theses structures are over 4’000 years old is hard to get your head around. I got to visit them from inside as well! Going down the steep stairs underground was an awesome experience. Also trying the famous Egyptian dish Koshary was unforgettable. It was so yummy! (2017)

Europe

11. The UK

I have a lot of relatives who live in London so I go to the UK at least once a year! I could definitely say that London feels like a second home to me!!

One of my favourite touristy things to do in London is going on one of the red double-decker buses on the top floor in front and seeing the city from above.

12. Switzerland

Well, this is the country I’ve lived in my whole life! If you want to know more about what it’s like to live in Switzerland you can read my blog post here!

13. Italy

Rome and Venice are the only places I’ve got to travel to in Italy but I definitely want to visit more! In Venice, we took a boat to the small islands surrounding it and got to see how they make the famous glass sculptures and in Rome my favourite moment was when we got to walk through the empty city at night after a storm, there was no one around and the puddles were creating an amazing reflection of St Peters Dome. That was the perfect situation for photography lovers like me! (2016, 2018)

14. Germany

I went on a class trip to Berlin back when I was in middle school. We got to see the Berlin Wall, go to the Berlin Zoo and learn all about the history in many museums. In the Pergamon Museum, we got to see the Ishtar Gate of Babylon which is something I learned about at school and always wanted to see! One of my favourite activities we did was visiting the lovely city of Potsdam with its beautiful castle and parks. (2016)

15. Sweden

I visited Stockholm with my sister back in April 2018. Funnily enough, we actually planned this trip a week beforehand so hardly had any time to plan it out. We did a lot of free walking tours during that trip and I absolutely loved learning everything about the history of that city! (2018)

16. Spain

Spain was and still is one of my family’s top place for a nice summer getaway! We normally go to Barcelona but recently we’ve been spending our holidays on the sunny Costa Brava! Ever since I was young, we’ve been going there every summer to relax by the beach and get a tan. I also got to travel through Andalucia during my end of high school trip and visited the amazing cities of Grenada, Sevilla and Cordoba. One of the highlights of that trip was walking through the beautiful streets of Cordoba! (2018)

17. Monaco

When I went to Nice in the South of France, I got to spend a day in the lovely country of Monaco. Everything there seems so luxurious and expensive I love it. Seeing all the expensive yachts on the coast, the plenty of apartments overlooking the sea…I got to go on the F1 tracks where they have the Monaco Grand Prix so that was a fun experience! (2019)

18. The Vatican

The smallest country that I’ve been to (and the smallest country in the world)! When I was visiting Rome, I got to go to the Vatican several times. The best moment was when I got the see the Pope reciting his prayers live. It was an experience I’ll never forget. (2018)

19. Greece

Since I was taking greek lessons back in middle school I had always wanted to visit Greece to actually experience all the history in real life. I was super happy to go to Athens and see the Parthenon and all the other historical buildings. I even got to go to the island of Santorini. We took a day trip on a boat that brought us to the volcano where we swam in the hot springs. (2015)

20. The Netherlands

When in Amsterdam, I got to spend a day Zaanse Schans where you can see the famous windmills and even go inside them to see how they work. It was really cold that day so we went to the shop nearby and got to try some typical dutch cheese which was absolutely delicious. I remember like it was yesterday, there was a funfair on one of the main squares located near our Airbnb. I decided to ride the swing ride and got to see the whole city lit up at night! It was so nice. (2014)

21. Poland

When I was in Poland I only got to visit Krakow, it’s definitely a very nice city! One of the moments that stood out to me was visiting Auschwitz, and actually learning all about the history there. Actually seeing the place for yourself and walking in the rooms where so many experienced the last moments of their lives was definitely touching. (2018)

22. Belgium

Not going to lie when I think of my trip to Bruxelles, the first things that come into mind are chocolate, waffles, Manneken Pis and Brugges! We took a lovely and relaxing boat ride through the canals in Brugges, what a lovely experience that was! (2016)

23. France

Luckily, I live only 10 mins away from the French border so going to France is super easy! Although, I have been to Paris, Nice, Lyon and Disneyland of course!

24. Turkey

To be honest I visited Turkey so long ago, that my memories of my trip to Istanbul are not as vivid as I thought they would be…although I do remember taking the boat across the Bosphorus river from Europe to Asia! That marked the first time I ever put my feet in Asia so definitely a moment to remember! I also got to visit the mosques and it was my first time discovering what they were actually like inside! Needless to say, I remember being very impressed!

America

25. The US

I’ve visited quite a few places in the US from LA to NYC. I would say that for now, my favourite places were Boston, NYC and LA. I remember like it was yesterday when we drove as close as possible to the Hollywood sign and managed to find the perfect spot and took some amazing photos! (2013)

In Boston, I absolutely loved walking through Beacon Hill, the architecture of the houses there is just so quaint and lovely. I also got to see whales for the first time in my life so I was able to tick that off my Bucket List! (2019)

26. Canada

Although I feel like I haven’t quite yet experienced Canada to its fullest yet I still loved travelling to Québec City, Montréal and Niagara Falls! I will never forget the new foods I got to try in Québec City: maple syrup on a stick, maple syrup ice cream and poutine! (2019)

27. Brazil

Brazil is the first Southern American country I’ve ever visited. I travelled to Rio de Janeiro and let me tell you, I loved that city so much! The beaches, the atmosphere, everything! The Christ the Redeemer was also the first out of the seven wonders of the world I got to experience! It was definitely impressive to actually see it in real life! (2016)

To be honest I could talk for hours about every single one of these countries. I absolutely love telling everyone all the travel memories I’ve made. If I wrote in detail everything that happened, this blog post would probably be able to be published as a book 😉 Like they say, “Traveling – it leaves you speechless and turns you into a storyteller”. That quote is completely true and I’m sure you can relate to it as well.
