10 Bucket List Things To Do in Québec City

10 Bucket List Things To Do in Québec City

Québec City is an amazing place with so many things to do. From the food to the historical and monumental sites, there are plenty of things for you to visit!

I’ve put together a Bucket List of 10 Things you must see and do in Québec City, based on what I enjoyed doing during my stay there!

This is the ideal and only Bucket List you’ll need for your trip to Québec City!

The Food

First of all, food. When I think of Québec City, I think of Poutine and Maple Syrup right away as they are traditional dishes and are definitely a must-try!

1. Try a dish of Poutine

A dish of poutine

Invented in the 1950s in Québec City, this dish is composed of french fries, brown gravy and cheese curds. It’s definitely a heavy meal with a bunch of different tastes! Don’t make the mistake I made where my eyes were bigger than my stomach. I ordered a big portion and regretted it later on. 😂

The cheese curds are also known as squeaky cheese and have a bit of a weird sensation when you bite into it. But apart from that, Poutine is a good dish and a must-try while in Québec!

2. Maple Syrup Taffy

Maple Syrup Taffy

This super sweet treat is the perfect dessert to have after Poutine. You can get a Maple Syrup Taffy at many of the sweet stores on the streets. You can watch how they pour the maple syrup on the ice and roll it around a stick!

I got mine in a small store located in Old Québec called “La Petite Cabane à Sucre”

3. Maple Syrup Ice Cream

Now that you’ve tried Maple Syrup Taffy, why not try Maple Syrup Ice Cream! It usually comes with the toppings of your choice such as Maple Syrup flavoured biscuits or caramel. The perfect snack to go with coffee!

Sight-Seeing and Attractions

Being full of history, Québec City has a wonderful old town with so much sight-seeing to do!

4. Chateau Frontenac

The Chateau Frontenac in Québec City

Did you know that the Chateau Frontenac was the most photographed hotel on earth? With its outstanding architecture and design, you can definitely see why! To stay there, the most expensive rate for a night is about 500 dollars!

You can just visit the hotel without actually staying there which I totally recommend. It’s super luxurious and it feels like you’re in an actual castle!

5. Explore Old Québec

With its typical architecture and beautiful streets, Old Québec is what makes Québec City so special. Make sure to head to the Quartier Petit Champlain and Rue St. Louis, where you can find a lot of souvenirs and maple syrup stores!

6. See the Fortification Wall of Québec City

the Fortification Wall of Québec City

This wall, dated back to the 17th century, goes all around the city and has four big gated entrances and is a total of 4.6km long I suggest going through the St. Louis gate which brings you directly to the Old Town and the Chateau Frontenac.

7. Take the Funicular

The Funicular takes you from/to the Chateau Frontenac down/up to the Quartier Petit Champlain I mentioned before. The ride takes about 2 mins and costs 3,50$ but you get an amazing view of the St Lawrence River and the Old Town from above!

8. Learn about history with a free walking tour

Free walking tours are always the best way to learn more about the history of an unknown place. They usually take around 1 to 2 hours and it’s totally worth it! They give you so much information about the history as well as the best places to eat and see!

9. Get an amazing view from the “Observatoire de la Capitale”

This building offers the highest and the best view in the whole of Québec City. On the top floor, you get an amazing 360° view. Not a lot of people come here so it’s quite an empty place! The entrance fee is 15$ but the view makes it worth the money!

10. Relax at the Plaines d’Abraham

Plaines d'Abraham is a big urban park in Québec City.

Plaines d’Abraham is a big urban park in Québec City. As well as being a wonderful and relaxing place, it also offers an amazing view of the city with the Chateau Frontenac and the St Lawrence River in the distance. A perfect place to watch the sunset after a long day of discovering the city.

I hope these bucket list ideas inspire you for your trip to Québec City. Make sure to share this article with your friends if you find it helpful!
