Here’s How To Travel When You’re Stuck At Home

Here’s How To Travel When You’re Stuck At Home

Traveling right now is definitely off the cards. All boarders are closed, hardly any flights are operating, and of course, traveling is just not the smartest move at the moment because you have to stay home.

But it’s hard, especially when a trip you were looking forward to for weeks has been canceled due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

As a travel lover myself, and since my trip got canceled, I thought: how can one that loves to travel still do so but all in the comfort of their own home?

After some brainstorming, I came up with these ideas and this blog post that definitely has a contradicting title: How to travel when you’re stuck at home…

Anyway, I hope you enjoy reading and don’t forget to please STAY HOME!

Travel Through Smells

When we travel we are often met with new smells that we then associate to a specific place we went to or experience we had. Whether it is the smell of spicy food or simply the smell of sunscreen that reminds you of the beach, try to recreate those moments as you imagine that you are actually there, experiencing those moments.

Google Maps

Google Maps is the perfect site to use when you want to travel but can’t leave your house. Just go on Google Maps, go to a city you’ve always wanted to visit and explore the streets on Street View and imagine as if you were actually walking through them!

My Tip: Play GeoGuessr! The concept of the game is that you land in a random city and using Street View you have to guess which country you are in!

Look for Travel Inspiration on Instagram

Youtube Videos

Watch travel vlogs, travel documentaries or even drone videos, the possibilities are endless on a platform as large as YouTube!

My Tip: Look up Full Flight Videos to get a full video of the view from a plane window. Now all you have to do is play it on your TV, grab a seat and a drink and do as if you were on a flight, heading to a new destination!

Recreate Travel Scenarios

Someone on the beach

This next tip is one of my funniest. Basically do as if you were actually on your trip. Let me explain: imagine you are in Spain in your hotel about to go to the beach to tan.

Now recreate this scenario at home: Put on your swimwear, take your towel, sunglasses, head the sunniest spot in your house, and put on some sunscreen as you listen to sea sounds on Youtube.

After a while, you’ll forget you’re at home!

Create a Bucket List

Creating a Bucket List is a must for every travel lover. If you haven’t made one yet, this is the moment to do so! Grab a paper and pen and get started! For some inspiration, make sure to read my article:

Write a Story

Someone writing a story

Use your imagination and write a story about a travel experience you wish to have or already had! It can range from traveling through the Amazon Rainforest to visiting the Eiffel Tower! Make sure to describe everything in as much detail as you can including the smells, feelings, views, and the weather!

Visit Virtual Museums

Museums such as The Louvre and The British Museum offer free virtual tours of their museum! Just sit on your couch with your headphones and visit them! It’s as simple as that!

Listen to Music

Music is a good way to be taken back to another time in your life. Make sure to listen to one of your old playlists you used to listen to when you were on summer break to relive those fun moments again.

Do a Scrapbook of Your Last Trip

Print out all your photos from your last or favourite trip you’ve been on and stick them all in a book! Also, write down the most memorable moments and then you have a perfect travel souvenir to look at!

Be Creative and Take Pics

No travel photos to post on Instagram? Now it’s your time to be creative! Grab yourself a milk bottle or toilet seat, put a plane view picture on your computer, and do as if you were on a flight!

Listen to Travel Sounds

Lookup airport sounds, a simple conversation in a foreign language, or even the sound of the waves and nature! All these travel-related sounds will for sure make you feel as if you’re actually there!
